pan out: develop in a particular way or in a successful way. 일이 잘 풀리다.

I did not know that deal would pan out. 그 일이 잘 풀릴 것인지 알지 못했다.

 

up-and-coming: likely to achieve success soon or in the near future

The summer exhibition has a major focus on young up-and-coming talent.

 

cut out for: naturally able or suited to do or be something. good at it 과 동일. 

He has really got his work cut out for him.

I cut out for baking. 

 

take a rain check: used to tell someone that you cannot accept an invitation now, but would like to do so at a later time. 재고하겠다고 말하는 거.

Do you mind if I take a rain check on that drink?

 

toot horn: boast or brag about one’s own abilities, skills, success, achievements, etc.

Jen does not like to toot her own horn but she is the best lawyer in the firm.

 

follow through: continue something until it is completed. 끝까지 하다.

We also need to discuss the details on how to follow through afterward.

Dialogue

A: Ms. Nelson. I thought you were on a business trip to Chicago?

B: I was. I just got back this morning.

 

A: I see. Was your trip a success?
