A: Pretty busy, I have been working the second job just to try to make ends meet.

B: Yeah, it is pretty tough. Economy is not good right now.

With the economy so bad now, it is really hard to make ends meet these days.

learn the ropes: learn how to do a new job or activity. 요령을 익히다. 일을 배우다.

Don’t worry. It can take quite a while for a new employee to learn the ropes in a big office.

Luckily, I’m going through office training and hopefully it shouldn’t take me too long to learn the ropes.

Since my new job is a remote work, I took quite a while to learn the ropes.

warden: 교도소장

go in one ear, and out the other: 한 귀로 듣고 한 귀로 흘리다.

Example 1.

How many time have I told you that when you go walking in the woods you have to wear long pants?

Everything I say just goes in one ear and out the other, huh?

Example 2.

A: You know my boss is always telling me that I should've gotten in on this stock when he did and he's driving me carzy. For goodness' sake, he really should just stop poking his nose in my personal life.

내 사수 있지. 내가 자기랑 같이 주식 투자를 시작했어야 했다고 계속 말하는 데 진짜 돌아버리겠어. 내 사생활에 관심 좀 꺼줬으면 좋겠어.

B: Oh, that really sucks! Just let it go one ear and out the other.
