get down to brass tacks: start talking about the most important or basic facts of a situation. 이제 본론 시작하지.

get down to the business; begin to get serious; get down to work  와 유사.

We have wasted too much time on chatting. Let us get down to brass tacks.

brass tacks = 핵심을 의미함.

 

a top-notch: excellent; of very good quality

The most important aspect of giving a top-notch presentation is to be prepared.

 

the cream of the crop: the best of a group of similar things or people.
 수확물(crop) 중에서도 가장 알짜배기(cream)으로 특정 집단에서 가장 지적이고 높은 기술을 가진 사람들을 의미한다.

Companies like that put a lot of effort in recruiting the cream of the crop.

 

cut-throat: competing in a strong and unfair way, without considering any harm caused to others 경쟁이 매우 심한. 비열한 짓을 해서 이길 정도로. 목을 자른다 생각하면 될듯.

Law school competition is as cut-throat as its reputation.

 

go wrong: make a mistake or a bad decision

The relationship started to go wrong when they moved abroad.

what the future holds: what is likely to happen in the future

I do not know what the future holds for us.

Original: In the past, Korea government pushed the people to buy their own country product.

Better: In the pase, the Korean government forced people to buy locally made products.

 

Original: Banana is not able to be grown up in Korea.

Better: Banana can't be grown in Korea.
