Key Word

talk over: speak loud enough or drown out someone by talking more loudly, forcefully, and persistently than them

말하는 도중에 들어가, 크게 말하면서 상대방이 말을 못하게 만듦.

As a child, I was taught that it is rude to interrupt and talk over someone else.

We should never talk over, butt in, or cut off another person.

 

butt in: take part in a conversation or activity, or enter somewhere, without being invited or expected

대화하는 무리에 초대받지 않았지만 끼어듦. talk over과 달리 크게 말하거나, 다른 사람 말하는 걸 방해하지 않음

My boss is always butting in on our conversations.

 

swing by: visit a place quickly, especially on your way to another place

I told him we would swing by his office about 5:00 today.

 

in depth: done carefully and in great detail

I have not looked at the report in depth yet.

Can you go more in depth about it? What are the best ways to demonstrate respect at work?

 

be set for (life): someone who is set for life has so much money that they never need to work again

As soon as I win the lottery, I will be set for life!

 

nitpick: find faults in details that are not important

We should not nitpick. People do not like being criticized over little things.

 

cut someone off: 누군가의 말을 중간에 끊다.

I apologize for cutting you off during the meeting earlier. I didn't mean to interrupt your train of thought.

cubicle: (큰 방 한 쪽을 칸막이 해 만든) 좁은 방

 

hangover: 숙취

After a night of heavy drinking, I woke up with a terrible hangover, experiencing a pounding headache and feeling nauseous.

pounding: (머리가) 지끈거림

nauseous: 메스꺼움

Better: Actually, I'm not feeling well because yesterday I went to a dinner party.

 

Original: We spent many times. I think the party finished at 5 a.m.

Better: We spend a lot of times at the party. I think it ended at 5 a.m.

 

Original: I'm feeling hangover, and a little headache.

Better: I'm feeling hungover , and a little headache.

 

Original: Sometimes my mother butt in on the conversation between my brother and I.

Better: Sometimes my mother butts in on the conversations I have with my brother.
