The future envisioned in sci-fi novels and movies depends on consistent and sometimes far-reaching strides in technology.

 

bank on: expect something or depend on something happening …에 의존하다, 확신하다. (=depend on, count on.)

Our company is banking on a new partnership to expose us to more potential customers and greater brand recognition.

 

get to~: make someone feel annoyed or upset

The demands of the job were getting to me so much that finally I decided to take a vacation.

 

gains in efficiency: the good use of time and energy in a way that does not waste any; working with lower costs to make more profit.

By purchasing the new software, our company is looking for noticeable gains in efficiency.

 

information overload: a situation in which you receive too much information at one time and cannot think about it in a clear way

If you think you are facing information overload it may be best to take a quick break and clear your head for a bit.

Some companies are going to far lengths in order to fight workplace stress. Has your company tried anything trendy to fight stress?

A: Wow, all these deadlines are really getting to me. I cannot wait to have some quality downtime this weekend. downtime: 쉬는 시간

B: I think that if we could just get some momentum going, these problems would not be as big as they now seem.

momentum: 가속도

 

A: Well, we are always facing trade-offs. To get more success requires more sacrifice.

B: I’m banking on this new software to create more gains in efficiency.

 

A: For sure, strides in technology have made certain processes faster, but I also feel more information overload.

B: I think that to handle my fatigue, it is not going to require any new technology but really some old-fashioned R&R.

 

A: You mean, rest and relaxation?

B: That sounds almost impossible to get these days. Too true. It seems each new day just adds to the clutter on my desk, not to speak of the mental clutter I have been feeling these days. clutter: 혼란, not to speak of: ~은 말할 것도 없이

 

A: Even e-mail seems to be just another barrier in the morning before I get to my real work.

B: I wish that I could start each quarter with a clean slate.

Original: I had to go to Hai Phong, it is another city of Vietnam, and it is not city for site seeing; it is not city for the beach resort and the good place; it just place for survive; real life of Vietnam.

Better: I had to go to Hai Phong, which is another city in Vietnam. It is not a city for site-seeing, and there are no beach resorts or any interesting places to go to. It's basically just a city where the natives live. It showed us the real side of Vietnam.

Original: I think I usually don't receive stress because of the heavy works, but I usually get the stress when people greet me coldly.

Better: I ususally don't get stressed because of my heavy workload, but I get stressed when people are cold towards me.
